I heartily congratulate Hon Justice Ifiok Ukanna as he retires today from the Akwa Ibom State Judiciary upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of sixty five years.
Although I was not privileged to have ever appeared before him, I have been assured by all my friends and colleagues who practise in the State that he was an exemplary star on the bench. It is on account of what I have heard of him that I am attending the Valedictory Court Session today in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State marking his retirement – where I will join others to extol the virtues of intelligence, hard work, dedication to duty, uprightness, and courtesy to all for which my Lord was well known whilst he served on the bench.
In borrowing the words of John Quincy Adams, I say, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader”. Hon Justice Ifiok Ukanna is a great leader and will be missed by all in the legal profession.
I wish my Lord a very rewarding and fruitful retirement.
