We are excited at Courtroom Mail office to announce that we have constituted a panel to assist us select the 2022 Courtroom Mail 100 Female Lawyers (SHID). The selection panel is made up of wonderful male and female lawyers drawn from different countries in Sub-Sahara Africa whose duty it will be to select our female colleagues who have distinguished themselves in such a way that we can regard them as Super Heroes, Heroes, Influencers and Disruptors (SHID)
This is coming at a very important time that we are holding our breath to see if the first female Chief Justice of South Africa will emerge in the person of Mandisa Maya whom we profiled as a Super Hero last year.
This project was initiated by the founding editor of Courtroom Mail, Anthony Atata in 2017 to honour remarkable female lawyers and was named Courtroom Mail 100 in 2021.
Courtroom Mail is so proud to be associated with all the members of the selection panel. We are also very proud that Rehana Khan Parker (South Africa) has agreed to Chair the panel. She is an accomplished Lawyer of over 28 years, who has served in Judicial and quasi-Judicial roles of an acting Judge of the High Courts in Western Cape, The Gauteng South and Chairperson of an independent appeal tribunal, amongst Government, SOEs , Academia and private sector board positions in South Africa.

In selecting 100 remarkable female lawyers across all ages from sub-Sahara Africa doing great things in Africa and abroad, we are not in any way under any illusion that we can successfully narrow down our exceptional female colleagues to just a hundred people. It is going to be a daunting task trying to decide who to get in and who not to but we believe that trying will always be better than not trying.
We aim to project role models whose work will inspire the young generation of lawyers, law students and girls in general across the African continent.
Our list will be published on the 8th of March for the International Womens’ Day.
