NBA Udu Branch has impeached their chairman in a meeting attended by 32 members, held on 7th June 2020 at Victory View Hotel, Delta state. The action was taken on grounds of alleged lack of transparency, accountability and breached multiple provisions of the “NBA Uniform Bye Laws” on how the affairs of the branch ought to be managed.
The relevant excerpts from the meeting reads:
Andrew Anibor, Esq reminded the House of the agenda of the meeting, to wit: the state of affairs of the branch in view of the letter of requisition sent to branch Chairman, Chief B. O. Asaboro and Secretary, O. O. Erhurhu, Esq. Andrew Anibor, Esq read the contents of the requisition letter to the House and further informed the House that the branch Chairman in his reply to the requisition letter did not address the salient issues raised therein. That the letter of requisition echoes the agitations of concerned members calling for a meeting to know how the affairs of the branch is being piloted especially unapproved/questionable withdrawals of branch funds and unilateral appointment/constitution of an electoral committee by branch chairman without recourse to other members of his executive or ratification by the general house. He further informed the House that branch chairman’s reply to these agitations was to instead deliberate on issues relating to the signatures attached to the requisition letter calling for an extra-ordinary meeting of the branch.
Andrew Anibor, Esq thereafter called for deliberation from the House on the state of affairs of the branch under the leadership of Chief B. O. Asaboro, Esq. Akugha Uzezi, Esq noted that the Chief B. O. Asaboro led Executive Committee has not been transparent and accountable to the general house, and has breached multiple provisions of the “NBA Uniform Bye Laws” on how the affairs of the branch ought to be managed. Akugha Uzezi, Esq then moved a motion to pass a vote of no-confidence on the Chairman and Secretary of the branch pursuant to Section 14 of NBA Bye law. The motion to pass a vote of no-confidence was seconded by Rotimi Fawehinmi, Esq.
Andrew Anibor, Esq called for the motion raised to be debated by members of the general house. Moses Segba, Esq noted that based on the motion moved by Akugha Uzezi, Esq, the entire executive committee of the branch be dissolved instead. A. J. Akpoguma (Miss) supported the motion to dissolve the entire Executive Committee of the branch citing high-handedness and misappropriation of branch funds. The House unanimously adopted the motion that the entire executive committee members of the branch be dissolved instead and all decisions of sub-committees including the electoral committee be nullified.
In the absence of any contrary view, Andrew Anibor, Esq declared that based on the unanimous decision of the House, Chief B. O. Asaboro led Executive Committee stands dissolved and the Electoral Committee arbitrarily constituted including its decisions thereof are nullified. The presiding member thereafter called for the inauguration of a Caretaker Committee to manage the affairs of the branch in the interim until a new Executive Committee is inaugurated in consonance with the provisions of the “NBA Uniform bye laws”.
Moses Segba, Esq nominated Rotimi Fawehinmi, Esq as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee to pilot the affairs of the branch in the interim. G. O. Didimako, Esq seconded the nomination.
Akugha Uzezi, Esq nominated Rukky Michael-Ohwo (Mrs) as Secretary of the Caretaker Committee. O. K. Ighoteguonor, Esq seconded the nomination.
Mumakai-Unagha nominated G. O. Didimako, Esq as a member of the Caretaker Committee. Rume Ono-Sorhue, Esq seconded the nomination.
Members of the Caretaker Committee of the branch were sworn-in and took their oath of office as administered by Andrew Anibor, Esq, Notary Public.
Rotimi Fawehinmi, Esq on behalf of the Caretaker Committee appreciated the house for their faith in them and called for the general house to unite and work in harmony to move the branch forward. He further assured the house that its affairs will henceforth be treated with keen attention and transparency.
