Olori Funmi Oluyede has been elevated as a Life member of the body of benchers. Others inducted as Life Benchers were Justice Adarna Iyayi-Lamikanra, Justice Ngozi P. Emehelu, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, Chief Offiong Offiong (SAN), Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma (SAN), Razak Osayande Isenalumhe, Lady Gloria Umoren, Prof. Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Prof. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo (SAN), and Yakubu Dogara.

Solomon Umoh (SAN), Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Michael Idele, A. K. Jingi, Justice John T. Tsoho, Justice Ejembi Eko, Justice Sidi Bage, and Justice Fatima Ommi Akinbam were alsoelevated.

Olori Oluyede was Called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986, funmi (whose formative years and early education took place in London, UK) is a transnational commercial attorney of high repute and co-founding partner, TRLPLAW Solicitors & Advocates, where she provides
over 39 years legal insight and expertise across a range of industries, to the firm’s most prominent clientele globally.

A passionate women/human rights advocate and prolific, erudite speaker, Olori Oluyede speaks regularly at global conferences -seasonally organizing widely acclaimed international conferences at the United Nations and internationally, in collaboration with her universal network of humanitarian organizations, which includes the International Bar Association, American Bar Association Int’l Law Section, International Federation of Women Layers (FIDA) USA; African Women Lawyers Association INT’L, the Geneva-based International Alliance of Women et al.

The ceremony was graced by distinguished legal luminaries, including former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Alfa Belgore, who delivered a keynote address on the importance of upholding ethics and decorum in the legal profession.

Justice Belgore emphasised the need for Benchers to serve as role models for younger lawyers and to maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

 

Former President of the Court of Appeal, Umaru Abdullahi, provided a historical overview of the Body of Benchers, tracing its establishment to the Legal Practitioners Amended Decree No. 15 of 1975.

He highlighted the Body’s evolution and its critical role in regulating the legal profession in Nigeria.
